All the music I write is a search for myself.

About This Quote

All the music I write is a search for myself. There is an old saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” And, truthfully, most of us don’t want to learn new tricks. We’re happy with what we know and we just want to keep doing what we’re good at. We don’t like to change and we would rather stay with what we know than try something new and dangerous.

But, the truth is that we must learn new things and we must try new things or we simply will not grow and develop as human beings. One of the greatest things about music and art is that it teaches you how to think in different ways. An artist can take a concept or idea…something you already know…and make it completely different.

It makes you look at things in a whole different light, which teaches you how to think in new ways. For example, when you hear a song by one of your favorite bands for the first time, it may take a second or two before you really understand what you are hearing. However, after that second or two, you begin to connect the dots and see where all of this information fits together.

The same can be said about poetry, which is also known as “word painting.” It may seem strange at first because so much of the meaning comes from the context of the words. You have to read each word several times to understand its meaning not just once…it takes time…but if you persist this type of reading process will soon become familiar to you…just like music! Through art, poems, music, writing songs and any other form of expression that comes out of your soul through your thoughts…you are able to learn how to think in new ways…things that you never knew before…and all of this helps refine your thoughts so that they are razor sharp!
